Hornaday ticks off boss Harvick in Truck race

Kevin HarvickKyle Busch kept looking in his mirror, expecting to see Kevin Harvick on his bumper ready to challenge for the lead.

One problem: Harvick couldn’t get one of his best employees to get out of the way.

Busch managed to stretch his fuel over the final 60 laps and took advantage of a communication breakdown between Harvick and Ron Hornaday to pick up his fifth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win of the season and third in his last three starts.

Not bad day for a truck Busch admits wasn’t the best on the 1.058-mile oval at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“I was going to be all right with a second or third, that’s the truck that we had,” Busch said. “But you’ve got to let things play out sometimes and today we did.”

Things turned Busch’s way after Harvick and Hornaday kept wrangling over second place. The two spent most of the final 50-plus laps racing side-by-side, with Hornaday seemingly unwilling to let his boss slip by.

At one point Harvick shouted at his spotter and crew chief over the radio and later gave Hornaday a not-so friendly tap on the bumper as a warning.

Hornaday, in the middle of a title race, still wouldn’t let Harvick pass, rebuffing him at every opportunity.

A visibly steamed Harvick walked over to Hornaday’s truck on pit road after the race, leaned inside and gave Hornaday, who was looking for his third straight win at New Hampshire, an earful.

“I felt like one of the two trucks should have won the race,” Harvick said. “I felt like we were in a little bit better shape … just some things internally we probably need to work on there.”

As much as I don’t like Hornaday and the way he drives, he is not at fault here, Harvick is. Now I didn’t see the race (was at the local track) but Hornaday is in a title hunt and if anything Harvick should have pulled over and let him go so that he could race for the win.

Now I’m kinda hoping that Hornaday doesn’t win the championship so that he can go to Harvick and give him the bird and say tell him that Harvick cost his own team the championship.

I was there and Harvick let Hornaday by early in the race. I guess he changed his mind late in the race???

It’s late in the race, every spot and every point is valuable. People let teammates (and non) go by all the time during the race if they feel they’re holding them up. But do you ever see it at the end of a race? Rarely. Hornaday wasn’t blocking like a mad man. He was running his line and Harvick couldn’t get by cleanly. Harvick shouldn’t blame Horn for doing his job.

I agree and like I’ve said before car racing IS NOT a team sport,I hate when people say jeff gordon and Dale Jr are teammates or this guy and this guy are teammates etc.you get the picture, you can’t compete against each other and be teammates…and harvick is in the wrong here PERIOD.

Yeah the only “team” part is back at the shop and the pit crew, etc. But really the only “team” aspect in the racing is at Daytona and Talladega and even then they’re guaranteed to ditch each other in the end lol

Ron was Right . Not at the end of any race would I move over, Not even for the Boss. He lost Last Year Championship by less than 10 Points. What was harvick thinking.
