Busch eyes possible Formula 1 test

After the busy NASCAR season ends, Busch is trying to get even more time behind the wheel of a car. This time, though, he’s looking at a different version of vehicle than he has become accustomed to.
“We’re working on a test session right now at the end of November, beginning of December sometime, going to Japan and doing a little exhibition sort of deal, see what it’s like,” Busch said. “We’ll take the Cup car over there, too, I think just kind of run around there at either Twin Ring [Motegi] or something like that, show them what the Cup cars are like and try to get in a Formula One car, too.”
Would he seriously consider driving in that series, though, at some point?
“We’ll see how good I test first, see if my neck can withstand the G-forces with braking and everything,” Busch said. “But I wouldn’t mind it. If I can do it and I’m good at it, then I’ll give it a shot and try it.”
Why not, he’s young and has his whole career ahead of him. He is ambitious so why not shoot for being the most recognized driver in the world. Jeff Gordon had the chance and he passed it up. I think Busch would do well and liven up the F-1 scene. He’s a hell of a driver.
Probably the most difficult thing for him would be to fit in with the uptight, stuffy F-1 scene and finally make it interesting to watch.
Jeff Gordon didnt pass up the chance, he did end up doing that demo day. He and Montoya were the ones who switched. I think this was back when Montoya was with BMW if I remember correctly.
I honestly don’t think he can do it. There are a few cup guys who can road course race like Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon, Boris Said, and Montoya obviously…. But if you want to do that kind of racing, you have to start right away. It’s a completely different style of driving to go from Stock cars to formula cars. I think if these guys want more track time they should go into the sportscar series like Rolex Grand-am, konii challenge, or imsa.
Ok he wants to go to F-1 good get him out of NASCAR. He drives like a drunk 6 year old, shoot with his driving abilitys everyone can become a race car driver. He cant win a race unless he wrecks someone I cant wait until he takes out one of the snooty F-1 guys and they rain on his little parade. If I was F-1 I’d tell him to take a hike go drive demo durby because thats all he’s good at destroying other peoples chances of winning.
I think it would be a great move for him!

No Jeff passed up a chance to be an F1 driver back when he was younger, he would have had to go to Europe and do F3000 (at the time, now its called GP2) for a few years and then if he was good enough move up into the F1 ranks. And yes JPM was driving for BMW-Williams at the time.
Chances are this thing with Kyle is going to be the same kind of deal but with either Toyota F1, or what is now Williams-Toyota (was BMW when Gordon did it). Chances are he will most likely do the swap with either Nico Rosberg or Timo Glock.
Chances are if it happens it’ll be at the Toyota owned Fuji Speedway, since Twin Ring Motegi and Suzuka Circuit are both Honda owned Tracks.
And Speaking of the Jeff Gordon / JPM thing, there is a Brian Minick painting of Jeff in the F1 car over on GoMotorBids, and the auction ends tomorrow afternoon.
ok that guy is obviously being sarcastic when he refers himself to a race fan. He doesn’t watch racing clearly

Greg Biffle?
he didnt wreck Biffle
He got into Biffle and Biffle saved it!
Hey “Racefan” I hope he does get to actually race an F1 car so he CAN take out one of those snooty F1 Drivers. Don’t get me wrong I love F1, and watch every race live no matter what time its on, but I’d rather have a driver with Kyles attitude and demeanor than a driver with the attitude and demeanor of Fernando Alonso.
Just curious but didn’t Kyle give Biffle the lead back out of respect… and then take it back clean? I’m not saying he didn’t use up the whole right side of the car, but I don’t think it was on other cars lol
Kyle has made me realize that ability and talent are not synonymous. However, he is definitely a driver and I’d like to see him strap on an F1 car. There’s pleny of guys in F1 who don’t belong in racing. Kyle definitely belongs in racing no matter the car or the series. I still want to punch him in the face though.
i am glad he got the offer, and yes, i believe he could do it. however, i hope he stays in nascar, he belongs here. in the truck race he took a subpar team to the front and dominated till he got wrecked, he cant do that in f1. he has the talent to make himself a legend. he should stay here, toyota sucks in f1, and no amount of talent can change that.
Busch has no chance in Formula One
Can you imagine him driving in the rain?
He would drive like an ever bigger idiot.
Plus, where is Toyota in F1?
They are fighting in the midfield with Renault, Red Bull, BMW-Sauber
Unless Busch can stand to finish 5-8th he wont last in F1 very long

What is wrong with Alonso?
He got the short end of the stick at is tenure with McLaren last year
Besides that, his driving talent is 2nd only to Kimi Raikonnen

It wasnt because of a lack of effort. That was one hell of a save by Biffle.
Kyle would never fit in with the F1 crowd. He would rub someone the wrong way probably the 1st time he got on the track and they would pretty much kick him out of their fancy little country club.

He didn’t get an Offer, this deal is essentially the same thing that Honda give to every IRL race winner, its a Test that is not really a test but just a PR stunt (although I’m sure if somebody impressed enough people they might be able to get a role as a test driver but nothing more).
As far as the truck team, when Kyle is in that truck it is a fully TRD backed truck with support from BDR.

How did he get the short end of the stick? He was the one who was too scared to actually pass Lewis on the track, so he purposely pitted long to delay Lewis from being able to get in one last hot lap, and then he goes and cries about it?
Face it he was at Renault and was dominating when they had Good EQ, then they started to go downhill and he started to cry then they went back uphill and he won his second championship and pretty much told Renault that they where not good enough for him. So he left and went to McLaren, and was good for awhile and then started to Cry because his teammate was out racing him and actually passing him on the track, so he went crawling back to Renault. And now that he is back at Renault and doing nothing, how long till he starts crying again?
As far as the driving talent thing, that can be said about a lot of drivers. Kyle’s driving talent is 2nd only to Jeff Gordon, Dale Jr’s driving talent is 2nd to two time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip, the list goes on and on and on……

Fisha is correct. Every car or truck kyle is in, is a fully funded team with toyota backing.

Biffle made a great save. Many drivers would have been in the wall.

Fisha you have to take a shot a Jr every chance you get! Dale is ten times the driver MW is or ever has been.
Go talk about F1 drivers on some other blog.
all toyota teams have some form of trd backing, however, billy belew(sp?) motorsports does not have the funding of many other teams in the series. kyle runs the races for free because he wants to help those guys out. they did a piece on the team before the race, they are not up to par, in equipment or funding, with several of the other top teams in the series. i should not have said they are subpar though, simply that they do not make trucks as dominant as kyle makes them seem.
Rodger, earlier in the season (like the second or third truck race) they also did a piece on that team, and yes when kyle is behind the wheel the 51 truck is a Fully backed TRD/JGR team. The 15 truck is not and when kyle is not in the 51 truck it is not, but when Kyle is racing that truck is is essentially a JGR truck.
So while BBM as an entire team may not be up to the save level as BDR or KHI, the actual 51 team is.
BTW that is one of the things thats kind of confusing in NASCAR, The various ways the word Team can be used l0l

Im not sure if you understand the facts concerning the incident you highlighted.
It was decided before Q3 that Alonso would get the last run, and the last set of tires.
Hamilton however ignored this and pitted when Alonso was rightfully in the pits, following the routine
created by his team. He can not see who is coming on the track, therefore he relied on his race engineer to find him a gap
in traffic, which he rightfully or wrongly seemingly exploited to hold Hamilton back.
Drivers make switches between teams all the time. To say Alonso “told Renault that they where not good enough for him” is invalid. I believe much of the reason behind Alonsos switch is that he could see that Renault was in a decline (Which was proven true by there pitiful performance in 2007) and that they no longer had the advantage of the mass-damper.
Alonso could see that Ferrari and McLaren were catching up quickly, so he decided to make a move to try and stay at the forefront.
Also, Alonso did not complain about the fact that his teammate ‘passed’ him, but was unhappy with how the team favored Hamilton. How did the team do this? All of Alonso’s sensitive telemetry was given to Hamilton so he could basically clone Alonsos setups and driving style. I wouldn’t be happy about that either when Alonso had to actually learn the tracks, not have the information handed to him.
Moving back to the point of this article…
All those who think that Busch can waltz in and win in Formula One, you gravely underestimate this difficulty regarding driving those cars. It takes months of training just for your neck to be able to withstand the G-Forces, let alone be competitive
Andrew,
I think many don’t know what kyle can do in f1, i just think they would like for him to leave nascar!
