Several drivers required a serious cooling off period following Sunday’s race as the temperatures and long afternoon took their toll. Denny Hamlin, Brian Vickers and A.J. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pocono 500 drew an estimated crowd of about 85,000 yesterday, “short of the usual 100,000.” There were “vacant seats in the grandstand and some empty spaces in the infield”

Barry Green, business manager for Jacques Villeneuve, said the former Formula One champion definitely wants to be in the Sprint Cup series in 2009. Green, who denied reports last week that he and Villeneuve planned to start their own Cup team, said Villeneuve has turned down several offers to race in Europe.

Jeff Burton, No. 31 AT&T Impala SS, pulled within 21 points of the lead in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) standings after posting a strong fifth place finish in the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway.
