Max Helton, who 20 years ago helped begin a Christian ministry in the NASCAR garage that grew into the Motor Racing Outreach organization, died Sunday afternoon at his home in Huntersville, N.C. Mr. Helton was diagnosed with brain cancer in August.

The Chesterfield, Virginia-native also earned his career-first win at the half- mile short track. Toyota Camrys led 89 laps in today’s race at Martinsville with race-winner, Hamlin leading 82 of 500 laps.
