SPEED will interrupt regular programming tomorrow, Sept. 5 at 11a.m. ET to present a live NASCAR press conference. It is expected to be an announcement from Joe Gibbs Racing regarding the 2008 season and their move to Toyota.

Tony Eury Jr. will be Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief at Hendrick Motorsports.
“Tony Jr. and Dale have a successful history working together,” team owner Rick Hendrick said Tuesday. “They have trust in each other, which is the biggest part of the relationship between driver and crew chief.”

ESPN2’s NASCAR Now has reported that Mountain/AMP would probably be 55% of the races and National Guard would be 45% of the races for Dale Earnhardt Jr. There would be no problem with Navy being the sponsor of Dale Jr’s #88 Busch team, but that he would not be able to drive it.

Car owner J.D. Gibbs says that contract extensions are nearly set with #11-Denny Hamlin and #20-Tony Stewart. Both have contracts through 2009.

Marcos Ambrose gets a do-over. One of the feel-good stories of this year happened when Robby Gordon provided a Nextel Cup car for Australia’s Ambrose at Watkins Glen, a week after an on-track confrontation cost both of them a victory in the Busch race in Montreal.

Elton Sawyer, Team Red Bull’s competition director, responded to questions about a possible switch from Toyotas to Chevrolets next season by saying his operation “is very content with our current manufacture. We have no plans to make any changes. It’s been a good partnership.”
