NASCAR has issued penalties and fines to the #5 and #70 teams that compete in the Nextel Cup Series, as a result of rule infractions found this past weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, N.H.

A new name for the Nextel Cup Series will likely be announced at a news conference Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.
The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com reported in March that Sprint Nextel would likely change the name of NASCAR’s top series to Sprint Cup.

Earnhardt-Childress Racing Technologies will debut the new common engine package this weekend at Daytona International Speedway.
All six Richard Childress Racing and Dale Earnhardt, Inc. (DEI) cars will run the new engine.

BAM Racing is pleased to welcome Larry Foyt and associate sponsor Firehouse Subs to the #49 Dodge Charger for the Pepsi 400 this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. Foyt will attempt to make his first Nextel Cup Series start of the season with BAM Racing this weekend.

Furniture Row Racing, #78 in the Nextel Cup Series, has announced plans to seek additional sponsorship. Furniture Row Companies, based out of Denver, Colorado, owns and exclusively sponsors Furniture Row Racing. The organization currently operates a full-time, stand-alone Cup team with driver and motor sport personality Kenny Wallace behind the wheel.

Unfortunately McGlynn Motorsports will be closing and auctioning off their assets at Sentman Auctions in North Carolina in the middle of July. Derrike commented, “Certainly we showed that we could make races with minimal sponsorship. We just could not find people or companies that had the means to sponsor us.”

Dean Sicking, the man responsible for the development of the SAFER Barrier that is used now at all major speedways in America, is headed to the White House. Sicking will receive the National Science and Technology Medal from President Bush on July 27. The medal is the country’s highest award for technological innovation.
