Today NASCAR filed a counter claim in U.S. District Court against AT&T Mobility/Cingular Wireless and AT&T Inc., alleging breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation, and conspiracy to aid and abet wrongful interference with Nextel’s exclusive sponsorship agreement.
NASCAR is seeking a minimum of $100 million in damages.

Carl Edwards snapped a 52-race Nextel Cup winless streak Sunday by holding off Martin Truex Jr. to win at Michigan International Speedway. “Is it really over?’” he excitedly asked his crew as he closed in on the finish line.

Richard Childress said he hopes to have an announcement soon that he has signed Jeff Burton to a contract extension. Childress is also working on an extension with sponsor AT&T. Burton’s deal runs out at the end of this year.

Tony Stewart is not happy with Yates driver David Gilliland after an incident that occurred in yesterday’s happy hour practice session for today’s Michigan Nextel Cup race.
The two tangled when Gilliland was pitting after a long run with worn tires just as Stewart was entering the track with fresh tires.
