NASCAR Busch Series fans will have a new television destination in 2007. Beginning Feb. 17, ESPN2 will be the new home of the NASCAR Busch Series with select races to air on ESPN on ABC.

DAVIDSON, N. C. (Dec. 7, 2006) – A special “Impact Athlete Award” presentation by 2004 NASCAR champion Kurt Busch to popular veteran driver/humanitarian Kyle Petty was among the highlights of Wednesday night’s 2006 Southern Sports Awards. The two-hour made-for-TV ceremony was held at the Duke Family Performance Hall here at Davidson College.

Mike Nelson, a race engineer for Penske Racing since 2000, has been named crew chief of the #12-Alltel Dodge team that competes in the Nextel Cup Series. Nelson, who served as the team’s interim crew chief for the 2006 season’s final two races, assumes his role immediately.

The acknowledgments continue for 2006 Nextel Cup Series Champion Jimmie Johnson, who was honored during last week’s annual Champion’s Week festivities in New York City. Johnson, who drives for Hendrick Motorsports, is among the candidates listed for the 2006 United States Sports Academy Athlete of the Year presented by USATODAY.com and MSNBC.com.
