As if there isn’t already enough pressure in trying to win the Nextel Cup championship, General Motors ramped things up on Thursday.
At the annual Myers Brothers Awards, co-hosted by NASCAR and the National Motorsports Press Association, GM presented Jimmie Johnson’s wife, Chandra, with the keys to a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette convertible.

Though he has not so much as tested at Ginn Racing Chevrolet at Daytona International Speedway, Mark Martin says he’ll enter Speed Weeks 2007 with the best chance of his career to win the Daytona 500.

The FIA has released the official car numbers for the 2007 Formula 1 season:
1. Fernando Alonso (Vodafone McLaren Mercedes)
2. Lewis Hamilton (Vodafone McLaren Mercedes)
3. Giancarlo Fisichella (ING Renault F1 Team)

NASCAR fans across the nation logged on to www.mostpopulardriver.com and with the click of a mouse, voted Dale Earnhardt, Jr. the most popular driver in 2006.  Earnhardt, Jr. was presented with the NASCAR NMPA Chex Most Popular Driver award Thursday, Nov 30th at the NASCAR Myers Brothers Award Luncheon in New York City.

NASCAR has all but ruled out major changes to the point system or Chase for the Championship format, three of the sanctioning body’s top officials said Thursday.

According to RDS, the former Formula One champion has reached an agreement with Roush Racing to help facilitate his move into NASCAR next spring.

Watch for NASCAR to limit the number of past-champion’s provisionals any driver can take to make Nextel Cup races next season to six, series director John Darby said.

Double Formula 1 world champion Mika Hakkinen is refusing to rule out the prospect of further tests with McLaren.
Hakkinen, who won back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999 with the Woking team, returned to the sport for the first time in five years with a test for McLaren on Thursday.
