Downtown Phoenix is getting back on the racing circuit.
The Phoenix City Council said “yes” late Tuesday to a request by Grand Prix Arizona Festival organizers Dale Jensen and Brad Yonover to hold Champ Car street races in the southeastern portion of the downtown beginning in November 2007.

Indy Racing League champion Sam Hornish says there is a possibility he will compete in some NASCAR races in 2007.

Hopes that Juan Pablo Montoya would begin his stock-car racing career at Kansas Speedway have apparently ended.

Panther Racing’s Vitor Meira turned the first official IndyCar Series lap at Daytona International Speedway as the series began a two-day compatibility test on the 10-turn, 2.73-mile road course.

The finish line is in sight for a proposed Indy-style street race that would send cars speeding as fast as 180 mph through the streets of downtown Phoenix.
